We're still preparing the server for it's new home in downtown Los Angeles. Once there, the forum should be a lot faster and a lot more stable.

For now, believe it or not, it's actually in my closet.

You keep it in an unventilated closet and wonder why it's loud. Isn't it simple trying it's hardest not to melt?

Nope, it's actually ventilated with fans that you can't see in the picture, so the air flows in one side, and out the other. The reason it's so loud is because HP servers (which is the actual server that hosts the forum--the skinny one in the middle), G6 and later, check drive temperatures, but the problem is I'm using SATA drives instead of SAS which have the temperature sensors that the server is trying to read. This results in the server believing it's overheating, and spinning the fans up faster.

Why am I using SATA drives you ask? The difference between 400 and 3,400 dollars. If anyone wants to send me 3,000 dollars I'll swap them out with better drives. :)
