Howdy yall,
Any ant people in San Antonio? Trying to find people to teach me/ tag along during anting escapades.
I recently started ant keeping, and with it, I've been blacklighting and attempting to find queen ants under rocks, logs, bark, etc. All I can seem to find are Solenopsis Invicta, or unwanted Pheidole/Dorymyrmex queens. I've been to 15+ parks/natural areas and the only queen I was able to find was a C. festinatus. I've tried every time of day, including sun down, midnight, morning, mid day, after rain, morning after, etc.
My question is, are there any notable spots to find a variety of species? My target Genus/Species, Camponotus (My current favorite Genus), Crematogaster, Neoponera, Pseudomyrmex, Myrmecocystus, Atta, Pogonomyrmex and honestly any other suggestions that are interesting. I understand some of these ants aren't found in San Antonio, or that its not the time of year... I'm just trying to find anything to be honest.
So again, If anyone has any good spot suggestions, doesn't have to be in San Antonio, but i'd prefer for it to be at least a day trip distance away, please send it my way.
