I recently returned from a trip to Switzerland where I came across two different genus of queen, so I snapped a few pictures. For curiosity's sake I was wondering if anyone could help me identify them. I really wish I could have kept them haha, but yeah, highly illegal!
The Formica queen was found on Mount Rigi (near Rigi Kulm) at about 5,500 feet elevation on June 21st.
Then this Lasius, which I am guessing is a Lasius niger? I was actually eating at a pizza place in their little outdoor dining area when it fell from the roof onto my pizza. This would have really grossed me out prior to my ant keeping days, but it didn't bother me. This was found in the town of Interlaken (1,800ish feet elevation) on June 23rd. As I was returning to the car there were tons of these guys running around all over the city. I could look out my window and see them on the side walks when we were stopped.
