Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8

Pheidole rhea is not in California. Anyone who actually looks at the record for the Antmaps record will soon figure out the record is from the Gulf of California, Mexico. The record is based on Boulton & Ward, 2002. which is a chapter titled, "Checklist of the ants of the Gulf of California Islands," in "A New island Biogeography of the Sea of Cortes," of the Oxford University Press. This species has never been recorded from California and doesn't range close enough for them to even plausibly occur here. In addition, there is a severe lack of suitable habitat and weather to support the species.
Antmaps.org is known to have numerous erroneous records, do not blindly trust it.
