Florida lasius flights

I really want a lasius colony and all I have found is one dead queen two years ago and a queen I raised to a few workers a year after that. But then I moved to Jacksonville and have not found a single queen since.

If anyone sees lasius nuptial flights in Florida let me know.

Lasius are pretty much nonexistent in florida. You are lucky to have even found them before.

Your best shot is hunting on the panhandle. They are more common there.

Okay so I have found that there is a Lasius Neoniger population in Gainsville I am going there soon. Are there any tips on when they fly and numbers in which they fly and Where should I look for queen. Should I flip rocks to find a queen that already flew?

Necromancing this page for a sec. Lasius doesn’t only fly in September down in Florida. Florida’s spring pretty much starts in January, meaning by April you can find Lasius such as L. neoniger. I actually see less Lasius queens around September. I have no clue why they are called Labour Day Ants, they should be called Easter Ants, or Independence Ants.

Last year I walked outside in my neighborhood and found like 25 Lasius queens just walking around, ha-ha. That was before I had equipment to catch them, however.


Ants are small creatures... but together... they can rule the world.
