I caught a bunch of pheidole tysoni queens back in mid July but all of them but one are taking an absurdly long time for their eggs to hatch. It’s been three months and they’re still sitting on them. Only one of them went on to get workers and recently got her first major. Are these other ones just duds or infertile.

They are probably unmated queens.

yes , probably infertile.  if you have a loupe or 40X lens you could look and see if some are shriveled, this would indicate infertility.

there all piled and up and look fresh but won’t hatch. Most of them also shed their wings. It is very strange.

I had the same behavior with a bunch of infertile Pheidole dentata queens.

isn’t it a bit odd though that only one queen would be fertile out of the 10+ queens I caught on different days no less

Why do you need more than one?
