I think picea because the lasts four antenna are brighter than the rest bit they are less common and live in the Appalachians Go to the full post

4. Length (from head to gaster): ~7mm
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Black
7. Distinguishing behavior: Very unmoving while guarding her eggs

Looks like Aphaenogaster picea or rudis.
