Hello,

I was checking in on my Camponotus Pennsylvanicus ants today. In one of the tubes, I saw something I am not sure what it is. Not sure if it is a pupae stage, waste? Just wondering if anyone had any ideas or could point me in the direction for more reading on this. Hopefully the pictures show it well enough, my phone camera is not great.

It appears to be the silk of a hatched cocoon or failed cocoon attempt, however I'm not sure why those larvae would have produced silk yet. If you use brighter lighting, you could try to get a better photograph of it.

Thank you for the insight, makes a lot of sense. The photos from about 2 weeks ago showed that queen with one more developed larvae compared to all the other eggs/larvae. So it could be that larvae. I will also try to take photos with better lighting next time.

Just wanted to make sure it was not waste or some kind of growth of fungi that would need me to move the queen.
