I fed them this morning and this time majors came out to help with the cricket. The workers at the nest entrance are eating some sweet jelly.

I got some cool pictures of the queen this afternoon. I'm so happy with how much they've grown! They also have tons of new workers and brood, and LOTS of eggs. Hopefully soon they get some new majors.

Feeding time again! (I know I post every feeding time but watching them eat is just so cool) The same as always. Cricket and sweet jelly. To my surprise they loved eating the flax seeds I gave them more than the grass seeds. Tennessee is in 1 week exactly. Can't wait to post all my ant observations.

Last update before I leave for TN. I fed them yesterday and took out some seeds from their mini-hearth. They seem to be growing very well with TONS of brood, although I did overfill the humidifier and water soaked into the nest. No ants were hurt and it's drying out well.

The pioneers are doing very well. Since I came back from TN I've noticed they've exploded in growth and are in need of another mini hearth.

Nice to hear!

Pics of the colony when you get the chance! Lets see how packed they are now. You going XL or XXL next?

Why the 76?

Why the 76?

In my name? I always thought of 76 as a lucky number. It's always showed up on places when I'm having a good time, and it's a pretty special and common number for me. Yesterday I had my early birthday party, and at dinner my order number was 76. So it shows up at special times.

I fed the pioneers for the first time since I came back, and I noticed a few things. First off, I couldn't open the lid without at least 6 ants escaping. I couldn't put them back without more escapees so I just crushed them. Dozens of majors and workers immediately swarmed the cricket which was a big change from before I left. The second change I noticed is the amount of brood inside their nest. All they had was a few larvae and that was it. The queen had laid dozens of eggs a few months ago and they had hatched, but the person feeding my ants didn't give them any protein, so the queen couldn't lay many eggs. The cricket I fed them today should help the queen lay many more eggs.

Sorry for the really bad photos. I'm not great with taking pictures and my phone isn't helping either.

Get a Hobby Lobby display case (they’re on sale 1/2 off this week), and make a bigger outworld with fluon to attach to your THA nest.

I'll look around. Another question. I have another pheidole dentata queen that I mentioned has eggs. Is it too late to add her to my current pheidole dentata colony or will they accept her. Is it only in the founding stages where you introduce new queens. Even if there is the slightest chance it could mess up the colony I won't do it. I've had colonies die in the past because of it.

I have good news! The cricket I have them worked in making the queen lay more eggs. Now they have two massive clumps of eggs and I'm excited for more workers. I also noticed they had gotten a new major. They are currently swarming the outworld and even brought up a big major.
