You have no escape barrier under your mini hearth lid?

No. I ran out a long time ago and forgot to get some more. I'll definitely need to now though. I have olive oil. Does that work for pheidole?

The olive oil worked! I put a layer along the side of the top, and they can't climb over it. But the thing is they look like they are eating it. I fed them a cricket and some sweet jelly so hopefully that barrier stays because now I can open it without any workers escaping.

I got another good pic of the queen along side her brood and the workers and majors around her. I also took some pictures of them feeding and forgot to mention they got two new majors! I'm excited and will update when the next big batch of pupae hatch. I find it amazing that they can drag the whole cricket into their nest. There's no way it fit without them cutting the legs off and making it smaller. If I ever catch them dropping it down into their nest, I'll post it here.

Just a short update. The Pioneers have been growing nicely with a lot more workers emerging every day. Besides that, nothing else has happened with them except the emergence of another new major. I truly am excited for this colony to get bigger!

I'm back from not posting for a few weeks, but I have updates, and pictures! 

The Pioneers have been doing great, with the queen laying tons of eggs, and they actually have been getting new majors and workers everyday. They still don't appear to be bigger in size visually, but they are growing. I can tell by the number of ants that swarm the food every feeding time. 
 

That big larvae is a major larve. From when this picture was taken it has pupated.
