Discovered my adolescent passion plant covered with these guys today. While I'm not too happy about them destroying the plant, butterflies are cool. What are these? How long will it take to pupate?

Reading about them, it seems they only eat the passion plant. Well they've completely stripped my small plant. What now? Will they die or start eating other plants?

Foogoo, The plant should be fine and come back from the roots. its the host plant for these guys. Its similar to the milkweed that the monarchs eat. They will just pupate and become butterflies.

I'm actually not worried about the plant (considering it's invasive, I figure it'll be fine). I'm more worried about the caterpillars since I think they're neat! I'd also prefer if they didn't decimate the neighboring plants as well...

I remember these from when I was a kid. Near the park by my house some guy had an entire fence covered with a pasion plant and these caterpillars were all over it.

I think that's a gulf fritilary Agraulis vanillae on passion vine.Looks like it should pupate within 2 weeks.
