I need help with Lasius Crypticus.

I have had a lasius crypticus colony for a few months, only having 5 workers and litlle to no brood. She isn't laying. Could it be their tube? their tube is getting kinda moldy. Should i move them? I've been giving them sugars and proteins but the queen just won't lay or do anything. Any help or tips?

 


What i am keeping Brachymyrmex patagonicus 1 worker x5 tetramorium immigrans 10 workers x2 lasius crypticus 5 workers Pheidole californica 6 queens150~ workers 10-30 majors, Formica argentea 10~ W

 

 

What I've kept crematogaster sp pheidole californica camponotus vicinus high elev, dumetorum,laevigatus, prenolepis imparis, pogonomyrmex californicus and subnitidus and californicus, veromessor andrei, camponotus sayi, hypoponera opacior ,Liometopum occidentale solnopsis molesta group, solenopsis xyloni.

Depending on how long you have had them out for, they may be wanting to hibernate. I find that most ants biological clock isn’t season related and will trigger after a certain amount of time out of the fridge, usually equivalent to when they would be active in the wild.

She was caught in Lake Tahoe California, it would be too early as it start snowing in late October/ November and is still warm and sunny there. should i try to move them to a new tube? How would i hibernate them if they are wanting to.

What i meant is that them wanting to hibernate is equivalent to the time they would be active in the wild. For example, if there is 5 months of the year where ants are active then your colony’s biological clock will likely trigger 5 months after you took them out of hibernation regardless of the current season.

A new test tube would not hurt much. In my experience with lasius, you may need to put some sand or other substrate into the test tube too.
