So my Tetramorium caespitum queen just layed some eggs and they are orange. Can anyone tell me why this is? I think it might be because of stress. I had to forcefully move her and her workers to a new test tube because the old test tube was moldy and they didn't want to move. Any answer would be appreciated.

Hmmm...

You sure the species is Tetramorium caespitum?

Is this queen in her founding stages?

Aphaenogaster cf. rudis

Tetramorium immigrans

Tapinoma sessile

Formica subsericea

Pheidole sp.

Camponotus nearcticus

There are certain ants that lay yellow, orange or even pink eggs (usually Camponotus species). Probably the color comes from something she ate.

We should respect all forms of consciousness. The body is just a vessel, a mere hull.

Are the eggs scattered and very small? If they look like little dried up dots, she could have turned into a dud (not properly fertilized?) Usually I observe this behavior with new queens, but it is still possible.

Just going to talk about it and not post any pictures of what's troubling you?

As has been mentioned egg color seems to be most frequently associated with diet.

There should be a way to delete posts and your account. I made this over 5 years ago when I was a silly little kid. Stupid posts and accounts like mine should be removed from the site.

It's not a stupid post, I'll bet everyone was wondering this when they started keeping. It's fine to ask questions

I like to think I'm pretty experienced but I asked the same question a few weeks ago.
