A few of these have been flying around my backyard, I caught this one yesterday.

Yea, agreed
Been keeping ants since January of 2021
Always try new things, even if its hard, hard is not impossible. We are smart and it's good to be smart but not too smart for your own good.
If it seems large compared to any workers you can find (which might not be around), it could be a queen. The queens generally have slightly longer abdomens and are a bit larger from what I've seen. I've tried some unsuccessful attempts in keeping Polistes dominula founding nests before, so any help from anyone experienced in this species would be very appreciated.
Current Colonies:
Cardiocondyla mauritanica (5 queens 35+ workers and 7 queens 15+ workers)
Monomorium ergatogyna (4 queens 200+ workers and 1 queen 150+ workers plus alate pupae)
Tetramorium immigrans (1 queen 200+ workers)
Pogonomyrmex rugosus (1 queen 13 workers)
Camponotus us-ca02 (1 queen 3 workers)
Tapinoma sessile (1 queen 3 workers)
Prenolepis imparis (1 queen plus brood)
Liometopum occidentale (1 queen plus brood)
From what I've read it is really hard to get them to start a nest in captivity. I had a good time keeping a small nest I captured, but even then they didn't expand the nest from when I caught it and the colonies only last a year.
