It really depends on where in Florida you are. In north and central Florida, the only stuff that really flies in december are invasives such as solenopsis invicta or brachymyrmex patagonicus. In south Florida, you can expect much cooler stuff to be flying, such as pheidole, cyphomyrmex, paratrechina, pseudomyrmex etc.

I'm pretty sure you can't get ants over state lines even if you find any

Young ant keeper with a decent amount of knowledge on local ant species.

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): ★ Camponotus irritans inferior, ★ Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, ★ Nylanderia sp., ★ Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), ★ Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

Wait what, ants can fly during winter?  I always assumed they thought 60 degrees Socal weather, for example, was cold (my cousins would complain about 70 degrees, which personally is pretty nice weather so).  Also yes, uh oh spaghettios, it's illegal border stuff!  The USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) are very much plant simps and kind of sort of hate ants ever since some very nice Solenopsis destroyed plants down south, so you know, why not just ban the transportation of all ants!  After all, I'm sure ants like Acromyrmex versicolor could survive the New England winters.  Yes, I am very much complaining about the US laws.
