Hi!
Who also lives in Europe & Asia and is catching Myrmica sp. queens this month?
I was wandering what part of day they fly and in what kind of places you can find most of them
Are they even big enough so you could easily see them on a pavement?

I'm in Portugal and the 1st rains after summer have fell two days ago, and I'm hunting around. Nothing so far except a colony full of small black ants with alates, just under a rock on the side of the compacted dirt road next to a river. Sorry not being able to be more specific about their sp...
Tomorrow I'm planning to go by the dunes on the sea shore where I caught my Formica fusca queens.
I'm still a noob and I know nothing about Myrmicas, but I remember watching some tiny red ants on the other side of the dunes where there is more sand, and I never saw them in the side where the sand is more compacted, I found my Formica fusca queens there and also see a lot of black Messors.
If I see any queens there, I'll be happy to report back tomorrow!

Thanks! I found 2 Myrmica queens about 2 weeks ago, but they still haven't laid.
Is it possible for myrmica to hibernate first and then start laying in springtime?
