I just wanted to basicly mention that I got a challenge from some of the ant keepers in my town to remember ever ant species in the world in one year, probably going to fail but why not try.

Always try new things, even if its hard, hard is not impossible. We are smart and it's good to be smart but not too smart for your own good.

Tell your friends it’s impossible because all the species of ants haven’t been identified yet. Many will go extinct before we describe them.

Unfortunately with something like insects that is true. We will never know the exact number of species since many go extinct before we discover them and many will take its place. Its just a (sort of) infinite cycle of evolution.

antwiki says there are 15,927 species of ants currently described and 152 described just this year. I would consider that impossible. You would probably get more use and have a more feasible challenge to remember the ants in your area and even that can be a pain from taxonomic changes. In the few years I've cared about ants I've seen the most common ants get changes. In the US Tetramorium caespitum became Tetramorium sp. E. Then changed again to T.immigrans. Formica fusca became F.subaenescens. ect.

Get an earpiece, and have someone list off the ants one by one from the list of all described species as you repeat the names to your shocked friends
