Location: View Royal, Victoria, B.C., Canada. Near Six Mile Pub and Thetis Lake.

Date: Aug. 10 & 11, 2021.

Habitat: Suburban area, adjacent to conifer forest.

Length: ~5mm for the alate*? I'm a numpty and forgot to measure while I had it captured (or any other of the subjects, for that matter)
Nuptial flight time: now.

Pictures aren't the best since I only have rudimentary hardware on hand, the alate* especially, the glass on the old salt shaker I used to capture it is quite refractive. I think there's at least two species here.

*Actually not an ant, it turns out. Whoopsie.

The last insect isn't an ant as it lacks elbowed antennae. It is most likely a bee or wasp. The picture quality is fine, though.

Noted, thanks, I'll edit the post to clarify. Never seen a wasp or bee that looks like that before, or that small.

Ant 1: Fusca group Formica.

Ant 2: Tetramorium immigrans.

Ant 3: Myrmica sp.

Ant 4: Formica, maybe in the neogagates group.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Thank you. Do you know if there's anywhere or anyone in particular I should ask about the ants in my neck of the woods?

AntsBC lives in a similar area I beliece. LC3 too. Neither are very active on here though.
