i just had a huge dying white pine tree taken down. it was becoming infested with carpenter ants.

the chainsawing left a great deal of coarse sawdust that i think will make nice mulch for my trees and plants.

will the carpenter ants be attracted to and live in the large sawdust/mulch pile or do they prefer to tunnel and live in the actual tree?

thank u

I doubt it. Who minds if they’re outside anyway? They will not eat your house or something.

"The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their meat in the summer." Prov. 30:25

Keep ordinary ants in extraordinary ways.

If anything its probably a satellite nest considering how big Camponotus colonies get and how much they like to make them.
