Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8

Welcome fellow Canadian.

If you want to learn, you've certainly come to the right place.

If you've caught a Queen it is almost certainly P. Imparis as they are the only ones flying in your region right now. (Jealous as I've been trying to catch them myself for 4 years now without any luck.)

Happy hunting and learning.

Welcome! If you haven’t yet, you should combine the three queens into one group to boost their chances of success.

Thank you for your welcome and advice. i have received conflicting advice on creating polygynous nests, up to and including combining established colonies. Right now i have them separated. i would hate to have an attempt at forced polygyny end in the death of both queens when their nanitics decide that One Must Go. i am considering it, though :)

Polygyny is when established colonies have multiple queens. This species is polygynous. If you combine them before they get workers it will be fine.

I’m certain you can combine them without them fighting. You will free up tubes, plus see a fascinating aspect of ant biology.
