The most fun i've ever had in this hobby was meeting with several other members and catching queens ants together.  With the start of the 2021 season approaching I've decided to make an active group chat for anting meetups/trips. This group chat will allow people specifically based in the So-Cal (Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties.) to share where and when they go out. t's basically like the chat room here but on your phone, with alerts, and specific to locally based members.

The goal of the group chat is to:

  • Plan group events to catch queen ants
  • Notifications on when/where people are going.
  • Connect local members on the forum.
  • Carpooling, spare test tubes, etc;

You can join via computer or phone by simply downloading telegram and using the following link: http://t.me/SoCal_Anting

If you live in/around Southern California and want to find some queens this season with other nearby members then this will be the place to join.

I plan on Posting a desert trip to catch some honey pot ants soon once Myrmecocystus fly. Possibly going camping and grilling that night. Posting all the details in the chat. Consider joining if you're in the area. 18+ only.

*PS* This chat is not intended to take away from the forum, just an easier way to stay informed and not miss out on any flights/group events.

Are you going to enforce the 18+ rule, cause I'm fairly certain a large portion of Californian anters are teenagers.

I actually just recently started using Telegram. It's pretty nice.

A lot of other clubs I've been in (like poker for example) used telegram to reach out to a lot of people and it worked perfectly. I think it's the app to use if you want a group chat with members.

To join, honestly yes. The purpose of this chat specifically is for group meetups and events. Even possibly camping far away from the city to catch some cool species.

Of course, there are always exceptions to rules...depending who you are and your involvement in the forum. Send me a PM.

Should have it on Android or iPhone. Can you use it via your phone?
