Hello everyone. I was wondering when the first ants fly in my area. I live in Massachusetts and the ants are just starting to come out of hibernation( and in my house (n) ) But I was wondering when the first ants start to fly. I have winter ants in my yard(I forgot their scientific name) but they haven't flown yet. I think they don't have any alates yet. Do you know when the first ants fly?

prenolepis imparis is usually the first ants to fly after winter in the northern US, at least. so i would assume that would include you.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8

That the ant I was thinking of. And yes I knew they flew in early spring but I'm not sure the colony in my yard is big enough to have alates yet. What ants fly after Prenoplis?

Hello fellow Massachusetts person, Prenelopis should come out soon.  I heard it was supposed to be warmer away from the coast (my house is literally a few streets away from a beach), Prenelos fly during spring (though I wouldn't be suprised if they also flew early summer), and next is Camponotus and Tetramorium, which tend to fly during the summer months (I've had more luck in late august for Camponotus), and Lasius species has been spotted in summer but they generally come more early fall (I think).  Myrmica is somewhere in between those three species (again I think, I found my Myrmica queen under a rock sometime in October ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)

I'm guessing the chances of me finding pheidole here are slim right? I always wanted pheidole, they are my favorite spieces.
