I love this journal, maybe you should try recreating a raid. Even though they may have no clue what that is some ants still like doing things they would do in the wild in captivity. I hope she does well.

I love this journal, maybe you should try recreating a raid. Even though they may have no clue what that is some ants still like doing things they would do in the wild in captivity. I hope she does well.

I've been planning to simulate raids with just brood for this year and maybe do it with some enemy workers when they have more and larger bios.

I think Formica is the quintessential ant - aggressive, fast and beautiful. Nice journal. So cool.

Species being kept:

 

 Solenopsis "plebeius", Camponotus maritimus, Formica cf. subaenescens, Formica cf. aerata, Lasius cf. americanus, Lasius aphidicola, Lasius brevicornis, Lasius nr claviger, Nylanderia vividula, Temnothorax nevadensis, Temnothorax chandleri, Temnothorax arboreus Solenopsis validiuscula, Solenopsis truncorum, Solenopsis xyloni, Formica perpilosa, Formica cf. lasiodes, Formica cf. neogagates Pogonomyrmex californicus, Pogonomyrmex salinus, and Myrmecocystus testaceus!!!!

 

Hoping to find this year:

Myrmecocystus, Liometopum occidentale, Camponotus essigi, Camponotus fragilis, Manica bradleyi, Formica perpilosa, Pheidole hyatti, and a Parasitic Formica sp.

 

People are stupid. It explains a lot...

So I broke open a log yesterday and there was some C. pennsylvanicus in it so I decided to take some pupae and give them to my pergandei but I didn’t expect them to actually accept them and so far none have been ate or killed.
