My employer and I are seeking out 25-50 worker ants to place in a temporary enclosure and record for our science curriculum, but the problem is that we live in Oregon and I don't know anyone who breeds ants in our state. Does anyone have any connections to people willing to part with 25-50 worker ants? The temporary enclosure they'll be in for filming is small/hand made since that is necessary for the context of the video, but I plan to get a more professional enclosure for after recording so they can live out the rest of their days in comfort.

Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest. -Proverbs 6: 6-8

there are actually a lot of ant keepers in oregon. most of them don't have large enough ant colonies though.

What species are you looking for? You could probably just go on amazon and buy some worker ants if all you want are workers. Or you could go outside and collect some.

Sadly oregon doesn't allow us to ship ants here. I have no species preference, I went out and collected a bunch and my supervisor is unhappy about the "behavior" of the ones I collected during filming process. Sadly now I haven't found large enough quantities to collect since it's getting colder. Thank you all for all of this investigative work!!

Do you have any suggestions of where they'd be accessible currently? It's getting to be fall in the valley that I'm in and all species are becoming harder to find.

it will be hard with it being this cold. i am really not sure you can find any anymore. i forgot that it was winter for a sec! the only option is really finding an antkeeper with a huge colony, that will donate ants to you.
