Mediterranean termite ID

1. Location of collection: Door frame from an old house in Catalonia

2. Date of collection: One year ago
3. Habitat of collection: Wood
4. Length: 2mm to 4mm (do not recall exactly)
5. Coloration, hue, pattern and texture: mostly white and yellow (as shown in the photo)
6. Distinguishing characteristics: none
7. Anything else distinctive: Once I opened the door, they become disrupted by the sun light
8. Nest description: No idea.

9. Nuptial flight time and date: none

Most people here are not good with termites, so you may not get an answer.

This seems to be Reticulitermes grassei. Europe does not have many termite species there, and the invasive R. flavipes is only present in the Canary islands to my knowledge

For Catalonia the species would be R. banyulensis. R. grassei is further west. Also R. flavipes is also found in a portion of western France.

They are alive for sure, I think there is a huge termite colony under the house

so are you currently keeping them or are they dead or what? I'm just asking

For Catalonia the species would be R. banyulensis. R. grassei is further west. Also R. flavipes is also found in a portion of western France.

Thanks for the reply. The house is very close to the border between Catalonia and Valencia, so I will not rule R. grassei out.
