From what I have read on these forums is the general consensus being the TarHellAnts formicariums. Does anybody else have any other recommendations?

I'd also reccomend Ants Australia's stuff (sold on Antkeeping Depot), but shipping costs are a little high and it takes a while. They ship from Australia but its high quality stuff.

maybe try your hand at making a formicarium, even though all my attempts either had a weird fungus or smelled really bad I am still trying to find a way.

I am the worst at naturalistic formicarium's I test them on pavement ants RIP well not test them they were the only ants I had so I put them in there and they all died I have learned my lesson: don't put only queen ants in only dirt.

I've been trying to figure out the best way to make my own. Using firebrick seems interesting but apparently there are different kinds that are more porous than others and it starts me right back at step one haha.

Uh, many people have had successful colonies of ants when they had a single queen in a dirt formicarium. All you need to do is to remember to hydrate them.

I guess my complication is that I have 14 queens currently and don't know what to do with them that would be considered fiscally responsible.

most formicariums would work, however, if you have the money, than get THA. Keep in mind if you get a nest for all the queens, you could be spending 500-1000 dollars.

If you are looking for something very low-maintenance, and aren't looking for anything natural looking, I make some starter formicariums like that.
