I found this queen in my backyard.  Looks kind of like molesta, but the molesta queens I've seen are smaller.

1. Location (on a map) of collection: Arvada, CO

2. Date of collection: 9/12
3. Habitat of collection: my garden, (don't really know how to be more descriptive, just your average garden)
4. Length (from head to gaster): about 5 mm.
5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: Head and thorax brown, gaster is light brownish, orange.  Very shiny
6. Distinguishing characteristics: Large wings for her size
7. Distinguishing behavior:  Really chill.  She didn't mind when I caught her, and doesn't mind when I mover her.
8. Nest description: N/A

9. Nuptial flight time and date: N/A

High elevation thief ants look like this. I think they are validiuscula.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).
