So it rained a good 2+ inches 3 days ago on Sunday. They’ve been opening up the entrances to their nests since Monday, and yesterday at around 6pm they were swarming the entrance to their nest with alates starting to walk out but they just pulled back in last minute for no reason. When and at what time of day should I be expecting them to fly? By now the ground is obviously dry again so I’m not sure what their deal is.

I think some may be flying, but a lot in that area have already flown. I would say you have a pretty good chance on, they fly early in the morning at like midnight and such. Its better if you look for founding chambers and dig up the queens.

They will most likely fly tonight. Be out there at around 9-10

In my experience, Myrmecocystus mimicus fly the morning after rain. Perhaps the rain was not optimal, as they probably would have flown if the ground is completely dry now.

I don't think there is 100% answer to that. Just try checking there every morning and afternoon!
