So I just ordered a colony of V. pergandei with 10 workers, and I was wondering what size formicarium would be best for them. I was thinking one of the following:

THA Mini Hearth III

THA Discus

THA Inception Chamber (3” diameter)

AC Hybrid nest mini

Custom grout formicarium: 4 x 9 (the size of my mould)

Are all the THA nests too small? Even if they aren’t too small, will they last long? Idk if Veromessor pergandei grows quickly

thanks for any help  :)

I’d avoid the AC nest if I were you. The THA discus is a good size, but lacks a foraging area.

Ants I have:

1 Formica fusca group- 0 workers

1 Tetramorium immigrans colony-20 workers

1 Dorymyrmex insanus- 1 queen, used to have workers

1 large P. occidentalis colony- around 50 workers, plenty of brood

Hw long would the discus last until it would have to be upgraded?

That depends on how fast V. pergandei grow. Having never kept them, I can’t say for sure. Size must also be taken into account, so it should last it until the colony has ~300 workers, more or less.
