Hey everyone. So I recently caught a Camponotus queen (probably chromaiodes - pictures and ID request coming soon) and I decided to test something new. So, the test tubes that i'm currently using come with screw-on metal caps. Just as an experiment, I poked small holes in the cap and used that as an entrance block instead of a cotton ball. I've heard rumours of Camponotus queens chewing through cotton, so I wanted to see how solid metal would go.

That’s a good idea. I have test tubes with plastic caps, and I make a larger hole in the cap so my smaller ants can feel more secure when I give them an outworld.

The only thing i'm worried about is having to unscrew the cap to feed the young colony; I feel like it'd be too tedious a process. Could I use a small tupperware container as a makeshift outworld?

You sure could. Put fluon around the rim and you’re good to go. Much better way to feed young colonies.

Speaking of fluon, I got some roles of "fluon tape" back when things were normal. Would that work well?
