So today i was messing in a sandbox and found me a nice Myrmica colony! 6 Mated queens and probably close to 20+ Alates and of course 300+ Workers. They all slept in a nice ball like bees do! What are my chances that I was able to do this? [I obviously did it but i wanna know what the odds were that I could have done it in Sask. Canada on a gloomy day when it's windy out.]

I will try to get some pics up when i can :D

Thanks, I am moving them into what used to be my other myrmica colony container, until i combined them again [they are really good for that, no fights or anything, I'm not saying it will work for everyone but it worked for me] I need a bigger "Nesting area for them though soon.]

This setup is looking like it's going to be one of those nests that everyone thinks won't work [but i think it will :P ]

Yesterday I also found some queens.  Flipped over 3 rocks and found 2 queens.  A Lasius (probably crypticus) and Formica podzolica.  I left them as I already have enough colonies.  There was snow in patches all over the area, but they are coming up beneath the rocks to warm up.  So cold they could barely move their legs.

But it goes to prove that the ants can be found in the right areas.

These guys where in the middle in almost like a "cave" like chamber all snuggled together in a ball. They haven't taken any insects yet but like sugar water and water.
