Found another queen! I went to plug in a extention cord into an electrical socket and she was inside the cover by her self.

1. Location (on a map) of collection: Hampton Virginia

2. Date of collection: 4/12/20

3. Habitat of collection: flower bed

4. Length (from head to gaster): 3/8 inches

5. Color, hue, pattern and texture: orangeish with what looks like 2 dark rings around abdomen

6. Distinguishing characteristics: has 1 petiole from what I can tell.

7. Distinguishing behavior: NA

8. Nest description: she was by her self in an outside electrical socket

9. Nuptial flight time and date: NA

Almost certainly Camponotus snellingi. As with all small Myrmentoma, you'd have to key her out to be certain.

Almost certainly Camponotus snellingi. As with all small Myrmentoma, you'd have to key her out to be certain.


Sorry I'm still learning but what does key her out mean?

It means using taxonomic keys, or guides, to properly identify a species. Here’s an example on AntWiki: https://www.antwiki....myops_short_key

Keys are identification guides that basically follow an if this or that feature, then this species kind of format.
