I don't use cables due to the rule where it can't come close to itself, but that sounds reasonable to me....
EDIT: I use a UL-listed seedling heating mat plus same-brand thermostat. Only problem is it's got a small surface area (also good though since I can keep only part of the formicaria on the mat, hopefully creating a temperature gradient). If/when I start using my Nucleus I'll probably just stick half of it on the heating mat.
