My success with camponotus is not that good either. I went to a camp and forgot to feed them when i returned...

Next time I keep them, I’ll feed them well, keep them in test tubes always, put substrate in their nest, and check them once a month. If they still die....... I have no words.

Yeah. Hopefully they don’t have a case of Sudden Queen Death Syndrome.

I would guess they would be fine once they get past 20 workers. 10 or below is a balancing act.

Update 2 (3/9/20)

Hello! Well, this week I cleaned out my colonies garbage pile, and I’m noticing that two of the eggs are starting to develop, so that’s cool. I just got two crickets and some wax worms. So, I just put a third of a Wax worm into there little out world. I will keep you updated on how it goes ;) Have a good rest of your night!

Nice. Eggs cannot develop, though.

Small larvae can sometimes be hard to distinguish from eggs. Keep in mind that eggs clump together, and larvae have a dark spot in the middle.

To get better pictures of the colony itself, you may want to shine some light in there and zoom in.

Hello! Sorry I haven't updated my journal in a couple weeks:( Well, my ants are doin' good. They are pretty much fully awake now, and pretty active. My ants have eaten 2 small crickets 2 weeks ago, and I put a wax worm in there a few days ago, but they didn't really like it:( And, I started putting their heating lamp on them.

Hey y’all!
Well, my colony is doing great. I have taken them outside a couple times, and the best news is that their queen laid around 10 eggs!! We just got MORE SNOW, so...I haven’t been about to take them outside to stay yet:( But, I’m hoping that I will be able to soon ;) (Sorry, all the eggs are kinda hiding, lol)

You think so? I thought those are the regular size of Camponotus Pennsylvanicus ants? And then the small ones are natistics. (Sorry I don’t know how to spell that word  )

The larger one looks like a small major to me. It’s head also looks a little larger.
