Hey this is just a thought ... I'm sure there are good reasons for not doing it, but anyway:

 

I really like the care sheets, but as pointed out there aren't a lot of new ones. I also like the journals, but finding anything requires searching and it's hard to find that way.

What about either subforums on each genus or species, and all material relevant to that species could go in that area? That way each ant would have all the relevant info in one place. Genus probably wouldn't work for all Camponotus, say, but that could be split out perhaps into several. That would make it much easier to find care info. Also could encourage posting notes/observations that aren't part of a whole journal, but likewise aren't as comprehensive as a care sheet. Actual caresheets could be stickied to the top of the subforum.

For this to work as you said Drew would have to spend months or even years to make subforums for each of the 15,000 species of ant on earth.

Well obviously there aren't even close that many ants represented in the forum in terms of journals, care sheets, and the like

Not all of them. Just prominent ones. If we did one for every genus/species, only a few would be used. I believe most would be happy with these:

Myrmecocystus

No. God, just no. WAY too much work. Even for the more common ones. And there's the fact that new stuff always pops up. People start keeping this, and ask for a new subforum, then people start keeping that, and so on. And there's a ton of info to keep up on. I find it much more convineint if people just did their own research and learned form others. Then there's the fact that some of them would die very fast due to the staleness of the ant in question or the lack of keepers.

Your username works exceedingly well for my feelings on even more subforums.

 

We absolutely just do not need these. We don't need the bee one either, (I'll point out that it's seen VERY little use—even less than the termite one) but we do. Unfortunately.

I think region based subforums would be better. We already have one for Australia, so why not North America, Europe, etc?

I and many others have submitted more ant care sheets and none of them have been submitted. I made one on Strumigenys louisianae and another on Trachymyrmex septentrionalis. That was over half a year ago.

I now think that perhaps a Southwestern U.S. subforum would be better than just North America in general, as the vast majority of antkeepers on this forum are from the U.S.A. and Canada. Southeast Asia, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and other regions with only a few forum users would be good.

I want to be a mod. I would be terrible though. Heres a thought. If you have something to share or a question to ask, maybe you could make a new topic? You know? Goes dead after the question is answered or the thing is discontinued,  or doesnt as you continue to share. Maybe?

I'd say we have quite a few good candidates. If a few of us over 500 posts became mods, Drew wouldn't be so busy and this forum would run more smoothly.
