Hibernation is still a long way off (for me anyway).

Isn't it winter in NY yet, or are you keeping your ants indoors for the time being?

It's mid-winter in NY right now. I don't have any ant colonies to hibernate sooo... yeah hibernation is a long way off   (I don't have any non-hibernating species either... I don't have any colonies yet, actually)

Oh, that's right! I forgot....   By the way, what does this have to do with hibernating ants in large setups? Topics can really go on tangents sometimes. At least this is still on hibernation.

I think I was reassuring myself that I won't need to hibernate any ants until next winter, so I didn't have to worry too terribly, and then you asked your question, and so on and so forth... but yeah this topic kind of deviated a bit  :D

Not nearly as much as going from endangered bees to the very ethics of ant keeping....

Yeah that topic devolved into some kind of anarchy. I think it's best we just stop replying to it and let it sink into the depths of the forums... BUT that's not relevant to this topic, so yeah I got a LOT of time to prepare for hibernation.

Yeah, that thread really went off the rails.

Great idea. It should’ve stayed buried since 2017.

And let's cease to discuss the topic anymore. (Shame on me for mentioning it)

Ur lucky ur not here in Canada my buddy hibernate a his ants in his garage and so far almost all his ants froze to death

I checked temperature fluctuations in my garage the first year I took up the hobby and it was WAY too cold many days. I knew right away that I would have to find another solution. So far I'm using a cheap used mini fridge but next year will be a challenge as I hope to have a converted aquarium vivarium setup from one colony.

This year's packed fridge:
