In Goldendale Washington I found 2 queen camponotus ants about 2 feet away from each other on a log under the bark. no brood that I could find, and I put them in the same container and they appeared to initiate tropalaxis. sorry if it’s spelled wrong! They appear to be camponotus modoc. Why did they do this no appeared fighting. As far as I know they are monogynous.

I've heard that sometimes queens will get along for a few days, or even until nanitics hatch. And then they'll decide to chew each other's heads off for no reason.

From what I know Camponotus are generally not tolerant of multiple queens. I'd keep them separate.

I believe Camponotus modoc are actually polygynous. Most Camponotus are polygynous, but queens are not tolerant of each other, so workers keep them from contact. I read an article about this. I believe it was called oligyny.

Queens can easily be two feet apart and not be associated at all. I've found Camponotus queens just inches apart in the same log which did not get along.

You can only hope the nanitics can stop them from killing each other. Otherwise, they most likely will do some Hunger Games crap in their set up
