I have two ants (hopefully queens) that are identical.
Caught Sept 16
Inside the main entrance of a office and the other directly outside the front door.
One seems to be more cautious and the other seems to investigate even the slightest movement.
Please help in any way possible including keeping methods or links to care sheets.

Pogonomyrmex. Treat them as semi claustral, this can differ even within species. They do better with substrate of some kind.

Currently keeping:

Tetramorium immigrans, Pogonomyrmex occidentalis

Myrmica punctiventris, Formica subsericea

Formica pallidefulva, Aphaeogaster cf. rudis

Camponotus pennsylvanicus

Camponotus nearcticus

Crematogaster cerasi

Temnothorax ambiguus

Prenolepis imparis

I've had a couple people I'd it as Pogonomyrmex and a couple say its Manica...
This ant identification thing can be really frustrating for a fist timer like myself. But from what I do know it can be extremely difficult for even the most experienced ant keepers...
I'd be extremely grateful if anyone would like to contact me to chat further about this. Or even to just be an ant buddy and take me under their wing in a sense during my early stages of ant keeping.

Thank you for your assistance!

This is definetly not Manica. The head shape is wrong, and the abdomen is tucked down. Pogonomyrmex for sure.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Pogonomyrmex Subnitidius
