Rubber bands work fine indoor. Although they degrade very easily, especially when in contact with water.

Can you explain with another words please ? I didn't understand :)

He means if you do not use silicone, rubber bands will work temporarily.  But sunlight and water cause them to break faster.

Old rubber bands are brittle and break off easily. This will eventually happen. If it is indoor, it may take months. If it is outdoor, it may degrade sooner. When the rubber band is in contact with the hydrated part of the ytong brick, it will also leave a mark after it degraded.

Also if the cover is too heavy, such as glass, the rubber bands would be stretched and become useless.

If you got reinforcement like silicone, most likely the rubber wouldn't exert too much weight. You probably wouldn't notice the rubber degrading after maybe one year.

You may want to use a thick line of silicone and set the ytong on it so there is no way they can make a nest under it.  :D

Other than that, looks great!

Can't wait to see the ants.  :D

A very fine nest and outworld for a small colony. It would be fine for my Myrmica rubra founding colony.

I like the way you made the chambers. It's good to give ants a surface on top like in the wild.
