Another one that needs identifying!  I got better pics this time.

1. Location of collection: Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
2. Date of collection : 29 July 2019
3. Habitat of collection: Sidewalk (next to schoolyard)
4. Length: 1 cm tip of gaster to mandible. (Medium sized)
5. Coloration, hue, pattern and texture: Black (not sure of legs)
6. Distinguishing characteristics: Hard to tell, but may have a very slight greyish band near top of gaster
7. Anything else distinctive: N/A

Took two more pic trying to get a decent side shot.

Notice she has already laid eggs.

Caught another one just like her yesterday when I least expected finding any queens.

Possibly Formica glacialis.

You may be right. I looked at a number of online glacialis pics and noted the distinct white speckled blotches (glacialis = 'ice blotches'?) and then took a closer look at my queens. They certainly have some blotches though not as prominent as those on most of the photos I saw.
