Now that I have identified my ants as Crematogaster cerasi who are mostly arboreal(live in wood and trees).... Back to the drawing board =(

They can be kept like normal ants.

Yeah from what i'm reading they seem to be able to make homes just about anywhere. So maybe I can just go back to my original plan which I was pretty happy with lol.
