Two more Queens - Valdosta Ga

1. Location (on a map) of collection: Valdosta Ga

2. Date of collection: 6/23/19

3. Habitat of collection: Around the warehouse I work in. Manicured lawns with some shrubs. Found these on the sidewalk.

4. Length (from head to gaster): The first link Queen (Reddish Brown) is about 1/8 of an inch.

Sorry for the picture quality! Haven’t had a chance to get a magnifying glass yet. The second “queen” may not be good enough pictures to tell much. Will get more accurate measurements soon as well.

Can you take a picture of the first next to a coin or a ruler for reference?

First one looks like a Lasius species to me. It is hard to tell though, I need a different angle.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Ok. Now I’m nervous. Lol Any tips on how to get her a good start (Cyphomyrmex rimosus)? Don’t won’t to kill her if I can help it!
