Best Answer Acutus , May 28 2019 - 10:57 AM

So any ideas why I would see 200 (safe estimate) of these guys and no Girls anywhere? Is that normal?

Should I have looked elsewhere? meaning not in the immediate area of the males?

You are right, it is a male; of the species Camponotus castaneus. They are flying right now, keep an eye out for queens. They are really beautiful.

Dammit!! I knew that's what they were but there were no queens and I saw a ton of these! How can there be hundreds of these and no Queens?

Here's a close up now that I'm home.

They are! I have a small colony but would've liked to try founding a colony.

It's likely that their flight was just starting. Males come out first then the females, following the males' pheromones.
