Camponotus Nearcticus?

Best Answer Aaron567 , May 19 2019 - 9:55 AM

Campontous nearcticus or Camponotus caryae. Would need high magnification on her head to narrow it down between those two.

What is Camponotus caryae exactly? I have heard mention of them in my area, but if I look up the species, all I see are shriveled museum specimens that I can't really correlate to a living ant, if that makes sense, so I have absolutely no idea what they look like, and don't know if I have seen them or not. I sometimes find odd colored nearcticus with orange heads and yellow thoraxes, could they be C. caryae?

Currently keeping:

Tetramorium immigrans, Pogonomyrmex occidentalis

Myrmica punctiventris, Formica subsericea

Formica pallidefulva, Aphaeogaster cf. rudis

Camponotus pennsylvanicus

Camponotus nearcticus

Crematogaster cerasi

Temnothorax ambiguus

Prenolepis imparis
