May be some anting opportunities tonight or tomorrow. Got lots of heavy storm cells all around. Problem is I think a couple are in repeat locations. Anyway I am gonna keep looking. Really want the area south of JT to get some rain.

Heading off to a spot tomorrow probably around 4 or 5pm since that area got 1.15 inches, hopefully something flies up there either tonight or tomorrow morning or night.

Any locations where M. Mexicanus or other honeypots are likely to fly that haven't been hit by rain yet? Seems like a handful of good spots that got a lot of rain

I think things like Phelan, Palmdale, Lancaster have already had honeypots fly. Maybe San Diego may have honeypots fly.

Just picked these guys up in julian while we are camping. I'm pretty new to this as these are my first queens. I'm not going back home until early tomorrow morning, and I picked them up around 9pm yesterday. Will they be fine until then? Just shy of 36 hours inside my tupperware until I transfer into test tubes

They already flew. It rained a couple weeks ago in the Phelan/Victorville area. You might find a few if you go out again for the second batch

They are only going to fly after some heat goes through. Rain with no heat afterwards doesn't make a difference.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies.

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Hey guys, I live in LA and I'm back into anting after a 2 year hiatus from the forum.

I remember back when I was a teenager meeting up with some fellow forum members and catching queens and how fun and great of an experience it was. So if anyone in the So-Cal area is going out anytime soon I'd like to join if possible and catch some queens to start a new colony.

Also if anyone is selling any queens, or know of any nuptial flights coming up soon, any advice I could get would be helpful. Thanks.

Great thread! Any folks heading anywhere near Mt Baldy (within ~20 miles) in the future? I would truly appreciate joining someone/group with experience to learn from and have an enjoyable outing. I’m near the 10/15 highway intersects for reference.
