"Long-term weather predicitons" and "remotely accurate" are far from the same thing. Even weather predicitons five days in advance can be over 10-15 degrees off.

There seems to be a slight spike in temperature Mon-Tues, that with some recent rain I was wondering if you guys thought It would be worth to head up into the mountains a little those nights or if its still just too cold.

I was in Big Bear last week, and still a couple feet of snow on the ground at 6000 feet. So don't go up too high.

Do you guys think Its a good Idea to try to catch camponotus tonight? I wasnt thinking anything high elevation something low like around black star canyon. I only ask because I want to be sure as I'm very busy with high school and want to make my time worth.

I was also thinking about checking some places out, but I just don’t think it’s warm enough at night yet. Correct me if I’m wrong though.
Yeah it should be at least 80 I'd say. Gonna have to wait for April-May.

The Dorymyrmex bicolor are flying at my house. San Diego nuptial flights!
Did you catch any Dorymymex queens? I'm super curious about the genus.
Starting this July I'm posting videos of my ants every week on youTube.
I like to make relaxing videos that capture the joy of watching ants.

Sorry to derail your thread here, but I do want to ask if San Diego is close enough to Mexico to find Atta?
No. The closest place to find Atta is in Southern AZ (in a national park).

New to Ants, excited to join this community . Looks like most of North San Diego county will hit lower 80’s on Thursday. Is this a good time to look for Pogonomyrmex queens or do they also need rain first?

Species like californicus and subnitidus around Socal don't necessarily need rain, heat spikes to like the high 80s-90s should trigger flights around June/July

They fly with the summer honeypots like mexicanus and navajo. If you arrive around sunset following the desert rain in July/August you should be able to get some. They are extremely easy to dig up even if you arrive a day or so late.
