How to knock an ant unconscious without killing it?

I want to do some photography without them running away like I'm a paparazzi or something.

Might be able to do it with alcohol. I knocked out a whole colony of Solenopsis molesta once on accident with just some alcohol fumes. Looked like I killed the whole colony, but they eventually all woke up and were back to normal.

CO2 also works, but I'm pretty sure any ant you knock unconscious would look like a dead ant.

put them in the freezer for a few minutes they go dormant, or the fridge for a longer period of time
Current ant colonies -
1) Opisthopsis Rufithorax (strobe ant), Melophorus sp2. black and orange, Pheidole species, Pheidole antipodum

Yeah, this is the simplest way. They go into a diapause kind of state, but still move slightly. But as Alex Wild has spoken, it just looks wrong. I guess it a valid opinion.
