Where will my small C. pennsylvanicus colony move?

Just a fun little poll.

It will be interesting what variables ants are most interested in. (Wet/dry large/small)

The main question would be: Can ants choose the better nest? All nests have equal amounts of light, so darkness should be a factor.

The optimum nest should be the firebrick nest due do it's adequate moisture content, and smaller, more defendable opening.

Note: Test tubes are dry - no cotton. Water is still supplied in outworld.

The ants are in the central firebrick nest that is now exposed to air. The container the nest was in started having mold.

According this this article, acorn ants(when their nest is disturbed and need to move, have been known to move to a nest when it was even 9 times further away than the poorer location.

So, theoretically, at about the same distance, they should choose the firebrick nest.

Also, does individual assessment and decision making play more of a factor in a smaller ant colony?

You guys guessed it! The corner of the outworld of course. Should of known the ants would do whatever they want to do.
