I've found both leptothorax and temnothorax in arboreal places
Temnothorax are pretty opportunistic. They often nest in small twigs that have fallen to the ground with other leaf litter, but they're also keen on nesting in dead branches on trees or underneath tree barkHuh, I always see them on the ground or in leaf litter.
