Scientific Name:  Leptogenys kitteli

Distribution:  Southeast asia and australia

Queen size:  7-6mm

Worker size:  5-6mm

Natural Habitat:  Forested area in the leaf litter

Circadian Activity:  Active 24/7

Mating Flight:  This species has ergatoid queens, so mating takes place on the ground.
 
Queen Founding Method:  Colony splitting

Monogyne or Polygyne:  Unknown, most likely monogyne

Average time from egg to worker:  Egg to Larvae = ~12 days; Larvae to pupae = N/A  Pupae to worker = ~14 days.  Relatively fast growing.

Recommended Temperature: Summer: 25 C, Winter: 11-15 C

Recommended Humidity:  Very humid, humidity is the key to their survival

Preferred Foods:  Crickets, isopods, roaches, and ant brood

Hibernation Details:  No hibernation

Escape Barrier Methods:  Very bad climbers, so some talcum powder is ok

Difficulty rating:  Difficult, this species requireshigh humidity and move their nests every week or so. They also sting and do not always accept food. They can't be kept in test tubes or they will slowly die.

Bite and/or Sting rating:  Sting, impossible to miss.

Special Care or Interesting Notes:  Needs multiple small "nests" tupperware boxes with holes in the side wet soil and dead leaves so they can move nests frequently. boxes must be kept at at least 90% humidity.
